Statement of Intent – Website

Statement of Intent – Website

I am planning to create a website with strong synergy to my music video. I am doing so by having an image of my singer, while filming the performative section of the video, very large taking up most of the front page. This idea of having a large image taking up the front page was inspired by Melanie Martinez’s website which opens up with an image of the school on her album cover and film. I believe that this will add both personality and professionality to my website, appealing to audiences. I have also used the colour scheme of my video throughout the site to make sure the media products link and that the bright colours attract audiences. This allows for my website and video to link seamlessly. I have used the music video as the first single of an album and I have used an image taken when filming as the album cover to show this.

On the home page, there will be images of my artist from filming the music video for digital convergence alongside music player which has the song, ‘Lonely Hearts Club. This will create a link between the song and visuals before even seeing the video itself. There will also be a section where audiences can subscribe for updates from the artist. This creates a personal style for the website and encourages viewers to become more involved. I also plan to have a video player on the home page with three videos; the music video, a behind the scenes video and a promotional video. On the second page, fans of the artist can buy merchandise which I designed. They will be able to click on the item they would like and find out more information on it such as prices. On this page there is also going to be a large number of tour dates emphasising the success and of the artist and their desire to connect with their audience. The background and page style will be the same on each page making the website flow better.

For my additional audio-visual content, I have created a Behind the Scenes video in which there are interviews with the artist and two actors involved in making the video. ‘Layla’ discusses the plan for the music video and her content in returning to acting. This creates synthetic personalisation between the artist and her audience as they get an insight into the making of the music video. The video also contains bloopers and other behind the scenes footage that was not included in the music video itself. This allows audiences to believe they are getting a secret insight into the video and that they are watching something they shouldn’t have. Also, it once again emphasises the personal style.

Along with the longer audio-visual content, there will also be a promotional trailer for the music video. This is very common with mainstream pop artists and is especially common for artists signed with Sony Music. The video is going to be about 20 seconds long and has the purpose to build excitement before the music video’s official release. It features short clips in chronological order from the video along to the musical introduction of ‘Lonely Hearts Club’. I will be using the same colour schemes used in both the music video and website.

Each of these products have obvious synergy with similar visual aids and the song. The Promotional video and the Behind the Scenes video include clips from the music video itself as well as clips filmed on the same day where they discuss experiences filming and working together.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

My website, additional videos and music video are examples of digitally convergent media through the obvious sense of synergy which owes to the use of bright, saturated colours such as the oranges, yellows and pinks. This presents the idea of joy and love which is emphasised in the song and music video narrative. This also appeals to the target audience of mainstream pop music which requires bright colours and love. I will be using the colour pink in both the artists logo and coming soon parts of the additional visual-audio products to imply branding. This also links to the intertextuality of Legally Blonde used in the narrative of the music video as the film’s brand is completely pink.
